SUNRISE OR SUNSET SESSION?

You know your family’s schedule best. Are you early birds or night owls? Here are some pros and cons to help you decide.

Sunrise
Pros:
• No crowds at the beach!
• This may work for you if your children like to wake up early.
• Little to no traffic! Best time to drive on the island!
• You have the rest of the day to enjoy!

Cons:
• You must be at the beach before sunrise and arrive at the beach while it’s still dark out so we can capture the sun as it comes up.
• Plan ahead for makeup and hair.

Sunset
Pros:
• You don’t need to wake up early!
• You have all day to get ready.
• You can enjoy a night at the beach after your session.
• Sunset sky colors can be spectacular!

Cons:
• Prepare for Honolulu traffic.
• Some kids are ready to unwind at this time. Work with your children’s schedule.
• Beaches can get pretty crowded. There will be plenty sunset worshipers on the beach.

What to wear?

CONSIDER:
• Coordinating your colors. You don’t need to match your outfit, but a coordinated pallet will create a beautiful image. Imagine the colors you want on your walls because you’re gong to want to display these photos!
• Pick a color or two and coordinate your outfits around them; go bold or use neutral tones.
• Keeping it Timeless. Not sure what to wear? Can’t go wrong with a timeless look. These images we will be creating together are meant to be on your walls, on display, for years to come!

STAY AWAY FROM:
• Graphic tees
• Big logos to prevent any distractions in your image.
• Avoid wearing black and white together.
• Avoid thin stripes.

IMPORTANT DETAILS

ARRIVE ON TIME
Consider Honolulu traffic and parking. Because we’ll be shooting either at sunrise or sunset, our time is governed by light. If you want that beautiful sunrise or sunset glow, that silhouette shot, it’s important that you arrive on time. There is a small window of opportunity to capture natural light that bathes you in that golden hour glow.

WEAR SLIPPAHS!
If you opted for a beach session, prepare to go barefoot and prepare to get your feet wet! Beach photos with me do not require shoes. Feel the sand in your toes and have fun during the session!

LET KIDS BE KIDS!
When kids get to the beach, they will naturally want to play and that’s ok! Go ahead and let them play for a bit. This is a good time for me to take lifestyle photos you will love. Don’t worry, we’ll get to those posed shots too! It’s best to prepare kids in advance that they can only play for a little bit but can put in more play time after the session. With that said, every child is different, I’m flexible and will work around your family!
When parents are stressed at the session, your kids will take in the same energy. Relax, breathe, take in the ocean, the beautiful greenery and be thankful for this day.

WEATHER
Rain: In Hawaii be prepared for sprinkles. We can get them throughout the day even when it’s completely sunny out! No worries! I’ve done plenty of sessions and a little sprinkle is ok!
Wind: There will be wind, especially on the beach. Let hair be hair! They will blow in the wind which adds to that beach photo aesthetic.
